Southern Vintage Inspiration Shoot | Atlanta Wedding Photographer

Joy Thigpen did a fabulous job styling this southern vintage shoot for the last day of Mike Colon’s workshop.  I was very lucky to have attended this workshop back in May to learn from one of the top wedding photographers in the industry.  My favorite part was being able to collaborate with such amazing people who put the shoot together and also working alongside amazing photographers.  If there’s one thing I realize time and time again, there is always something you can teach someone else, and there is always something you can learn from the next person.

Welcome Basket Atlanta Style | Wedding Inspiration

We’re from the south, so we had to represent and show some southern hospitality.  We bought welcome baskets for our wedding guests who were first time Atlanta visitors and filled them with iconic items from Atlanta or just the South.   The inspiration came from 100 layer cake’s post about welcome gifts for Brooklyn and NYC.  I loved the ideas.  If you live in either Brooklyn and NYC, you should check them out.  If you are thinking about doing a welcome basket either from Atlanta or another city, I would love to hear about what you decide to put in it!

These were some of the items included in the basket:

1. Map of Atlanta
2. Classic Coke bottle
3. Georgia Peach
4. Home-brewed Sweet Tea (by yours truly)
5. Varsity hat
6. Georgia Peanuts
7. Card for free Chik-fil-a Sandwhich
8. Waffle House hat (they don’t give them out like Varsity, so we went to dozens of them before we got enough)
9. Fan (since it’s hotlanta. literally.)
10. City passes to the Coke museum, GA aquarium, CNN center, and other attractions for those who were staying long enough

Hope for Haiti Progress | Haiti Humanitarian Photographer

We are very honored to be featured on Cake and Picture’s blog on philanthropic photographers.  Cake & Pictures is an exclusive directory of the finest wedding photographers in the world, and their focus is to connect brides with photographers.

Aside from wedding photography, our passion also is to share our lives with people from all over the world and tell their stories through photography.  We were privileged to have the opportunity to meet a group of Haitian women and children and tell their stories.

I remember when first embarking on this journey, I kept asking myself “why Haiti?”, and even you might be asking the same thing since we all know that there is suffering and need all over the world, even in our own neighborhoods.  The answer to those “why’s” for me were answered after we had met these women and children who had touched my life, and it was perfectly summed up by this quote from Eat Pray Love, “Of course I was aware, I explained, that this is a world full of untold suffering and war and that everyone is in need right now, but what are we to do?  This little group of people had become my family, and we must take care of our families wherever we find them.

Other inspiration, the words of Mother Teresa:

  • “If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one”
  • “In this life we cannot do great things.  We can only do small things with great love”

The Progress: We have raised $1578 so far.  We are definitely on the way!  We need to raise $2500 total for our next trip to include housing, airfare, and supplies.  Also, for the child sponsorship program, it is $480 per child per year.  Our goal is to sponsor at least 3 kids by the end of the year (or you can go here and sponsor your own child.  Please let us know if you do!).  Thank you all for your support so far through wedding donations and the Haiti portrait special.  Please continue to spread the word and let others know so we collectively can continue to love on Haiti.

Finding Balance | Thursday Thoughts

Today, I’m taking the day off for some me time. Well, other than my scheduled shoot tonight.  I know I’ve been tossing around the idea of having more discipline with a more regular work schedule.  Balancing work and personal life has always been a huge challenge that I have yet to conquer.  Running a business and being your own boss sometimes means there is no concrete beginning and no concrete end of a day.  There are a lot of times I take work to bed with me. Literally, I’ll be in bed with my laptop, and soon this will lead to an affair with my laptop.

It’s a harsh truth I’m realizing after last night having fainted in the bathroom at a braves game. Good thing it was the 755 club bathroom, or I don’t think I would have ever recovered from having my face smashed against those other awful bathroom floors. Of course, minutes later I picked myself back up and felt perfectly fine and was confused to why a group of women were huddled around me with way too many questions about whether I had too much to drink or if I was pregnant. They proceeded to wipe away my cold sweat and didn’t leave until the EMT arrived.  Real motherly women.  It was altogether strange and embarrassing having that much attention on me. I’m not sure what’s the cause of it, but I’m convinced that either way I need to live a more balanced life and have a healthier lifestyle.

Coincidentally, I’m in book three of Eat Pray Love, where Liz Gilbert is looking for balance in Bali, and I was going to blog about how interesting I found her journey to be.  I’m looking for a different kind of balance, but balance all the same.  I’m almost finished so that I can watch the movie!

So yeah, today I am giving my mind and body some rest.  Starting with prayer and meditation and a balanced breakfast.  Maybe I’ll catch up on reading some books. Watch a little tv.   And perhaps take a walk around the neighborhood if it’s not too hot.  Maybe, the hubby and I will even go on a date after the shoot.
