We’re all Strangers | Thursday Thoughts

We live in a strange time and place where we are all strangers even in our own neighborhood.  This place is called suburbia.  Where we most treasure our privacy.  Where ‘neighbor’ simply means we live in close proximity to one another but we may never go next door to borrow a cup of sugar.

Last weekend, we decided to break down some of those walls and throw a block party to get to know more of our neighbors.  We dragged Ben’s grill down to the end of the cul-de-sac

and had our talented accoustic duo play some music while we grilled out, ate, and got to know one another…

and their dogs.

“Hospitality is the overflowing of a heart that has to share what it has received. It takes a whole person to open up, it takes a secure person to be available, it takes a strong person to give yourself away.” – Radical Hospitality.  Jacob and I have been taking a hospitality class on Sundays and learning how to not only open up our homes, but also open up our hearts.

Will probably share more of what we’re learning from the class for next week’s Thursday Thoughts.  We’re heading off to Cali tonight!  So excited to see my LA peeps. :)  And ever since last week, I can’t stop craving Porto’s…….

Sara and Brian Bride+Groom Session | Dunwoody Wedding Photographer

It’s not as common in the States, but rather than trash the dress or day after sessions, a lot of people in Asia do a session all made up and dressed up in their wedding attire before the wedding because they want those photos to showcase at the wedding.

The first time Brian met Sara was as a favor to one of his friends.  Sara had been staying in Atlanta to study but had never had the opportunity to see the city before she went back to Korea.  Brian offered to show her around and during her tour of the city, they really connected.  After a lot of long distance and traveling back and forth, they decided to get married.   I think long distance is one of the hardest trials to a relationship, but I’m glad and encouraged to see relationships that stand firm through them.T his was from Sara and Brian’s Bride+Groom session a few weeks before the wedding.

Near the end, they switched into more casual clothes to do a few shots:

Happy Halloween!

What is everyone going to be for Halloween?   It’s going to be hard to outdo last year’s halloween costumes as Pebbles and Bamm Bamm.

We’re already late in the game, but we shall see if it’s possible. :)  Will post next week what we come up with.

[UPDATE]

Second time I’ve ever used a sewing machine, and here’s what I came up for $14.  Red shirt and a black skirt was from Goodwill ($10 total) and yellow and white ribbon ($4).  I cut up an old t-shirt for the neckline.  With a little more practice, I could be sewing all sorts of things.

P.S. I have yet to watch the office, but someone told me Pam was thinking the same thing this year.

Carol and Bonar Wedding | Glendalough Manor Wedding Photographer

Carol and Bonar’s wedding was a special one for us since they’ve been our friends for quite some time and I was standing as one of her bridesmaids.  It’s tricky having bridesmaid duty and shooting at the same time.  You have to be conscious of making sure your dress doesn’t wrinkle or your hair and make-up doesn’t mess up in the process.  Besides the getting ready, the bride and groom portraits, and details that I love, Jacob and Josh handled pretty much the rest of the wedding and did a fantastic job.

I remember dress shopping was a huge ordeal for me where I went to multiple shops and was indecisive along the entire process.  Carol, on the other hand, found her dress the first place we went to.  Of course, it helps when pretty much everything she put on looked gorgeous on her and the dress she decided on was no exception.

Tried something new and merged some of the getting ready photos.  What do you think?  Viola from Spencer Malay, who did our hair for my wedding, did all our hair for Carol’s wedding as well.  We love her.

The venue had a lot of beautiful areas landscaped with ponds, fountains, and bridges, but we pulled them aside and took them into the woods since we know how much Carol loves nature.

But we did take a few by the fountain since Bonar’s dad loved the fountain so much.  His favorite shot of the day:

This is probably the trickiest lighting situation at this time of day because of the beams above.  There was a split second where they were in the shade.
