I finally did it. Last night, we went back to Solomon brothers, and I gave my engagement ring back. Not to cause any confusion. Everything’s fine between Jacob and I. It wasn’t because I was dissatisfied with the style of the ring or the rock was not big enough. It was beyond what I could want or ask for in a ring, and I do know all the trouble Jacob went through to find the exact one since I have picky taste. But after much consideration and debating back and forth with myself, I decided it would be best to get the money back and use it elsewhere.
It was a TOUGH decision, and that’s an understatement. As much as I’d like to think that I’m not a very materialistic person, and I’d give all of my earnings to other people in need, I really do like nice things… sometimes it happens to be nice, shiny things. I’m not much of a jewelry person, and having a foreign object on my hand was a strange feeling. But at the same time it was nice looking down at it every now and then as a reminder that I am actually engaged! It symbolized our commitment to one another. The novelty of being newly engaged hadn’t even worn out yet.
It might have been very silly of me, but I took a gazillion photos of my ring for the last month knowing that any day I’d have to take it back. Even for my 365 project (the photo a day for 2010), bear with me through those, there are tons of ring photos scattered in there. At the very least, I’m glad I could capture these photos for my memories, and I now have found a new appreciation for ring shots. If I’m shooting your wedding in 2010, you will be getting some amazing ring shots with your photos. Here are some of my favorites:

I know it will surely be missed, but there are better things yet to come. The story has only begun here. I’m very excited to see how the next steps will unfold.
